Emma Kapi'olani Hughes is a California based painter and multimedia textile artist. Through pattern, saturation, and material experimentation, she confronts the absurdity of Western perception. She is examining how artificial imagery frame both Americana and the diasphoric indigenous experience. Her fascination with flora and overconsumption tracks shifting culture through colliding motifs, evoking overlapping histories of sillouettes betraying themselves.
